Este modismo se usa en situaciones informales cuando alguien da una respuesta rápida sin haberlo pensado mucho. Es común en el habla cotidiana, especialmente cuando se quiere enfatizar que la información puede no ser precisa.

Un error común es intentar traducirlo literalmente al español como «fuera de mi cabeza», lo cual no tiene sentido en español. La expresión correcta en español sería «así de improviso» o «sin pensarlo mucho».
