Why a dictation per level

A comprehension test tells you whether you got the idea. A dictation tells you exactly which word you did not hear, and in fast English it is nearly always the same kind of word: the auxiliary fused to the pronoun, the “to” that became a vowel, the “have” that no longer sounds like “have”.

The sentences are graded: at A2 there is one reduction a sentence and the rest is slow and clear; at C1 three or four chain together and the whole sentence runs at conversational speed. Start at your level and move up when you get more than 85% of the words.

Each sentence has two recordings by the same voice: the fast one, which is what is dictated, and the careful one, to compare afterwards. You can type the written form (“going to”) or the reduced one (“gonna”); both count as correct.
